Turkey's newly-elected President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrived in Northern Cyprus Turkish Republic (KKTC) on Monday for his first official foreign visit.
Cypriot President Derviş Eroğlu and his spouse Meral Eroğlu along with Turkey's Ambassador to Nicosia Halil İbrahim Akça and other officials welcomed Erdoğan at Ercan airport.
On the eve of Erdoğan's arrival, tight security precautions were taken on the expected transition routes of the Turkish President. KKTC police also dispersed a crowded group who were planning to hold a peaceful protest in regard of Erdoğan's visit.
Following the brief welcoming ceremony at the airport, Turkish President visited the graves of Cypriot's Turkish community's liberation leaders Rauf Denktaş and Dr. Fazıl Küçük to lay a wreath. Erdoğan's final destination was KKTC's Presidential palace where he will hold a meeting with his counterpart Derviş Eroğlu. President Erdoğan was welcomed with an official ceremony at the presidential palace.
