President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will have extensive bilateral talks with British Prime Minister David Cameron and is also expected to meet with the Prince of Wales during Erdoğan's first NATO summit as president, which takes place this week in Wales.

British Ambassador to Turkey Richard Moore briefed journalists on Monday at the British Embassy in Ankara about the upcoming NATO summit in Wales.

“The fact that he [Cameron] is seeing Mr. Erdoğan is notable and reflects both the fact that Mr. Erdoğan is a longstanding leader, also he presides over a country, Turkey, which is at the heart of the some really difficult international security issues facing the NATO alliance,” said Moore. He added that many world leaders and the heads of state from more than 60 countries were coming to Wales for the NATO summit and that the UK prime minister cannot see all of the leaders.

According to diplomatic sources, Erdoğan is also going to meet with Prince Charles during the summit on Sept. 4-5.

Moore said the main subjects in the summit will be relations with Russia, the situation in Ukraine and the instability in Syria and Iraq. He said the summit would be a “back to basics” type, underscoring NATO's military capacity to “deter, meet and defeat threats.”
