Ethiopia Declares Mourning For Migrants Killed By Daesh

21.04.2015 11:48

By Addis Getachew.

Ethiopian parliament has declared three days of national mourning beginning Wednesday for about 30 Ethiopians massacred in cold blood by Daesh militant group in Libya.

The House of Peoples' Representatives convened on Tuesday and decided unanimously that Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be mourning days.

During the mourning days, the national flag will be flying half-mast across the country as well as at Ethiopia's foreign missions, embassies and consulates across the world.

Speaking to the parliament, Foreign Minister Tedros Adhanom reaffirmed the readiness of his government to facilitate the return of the country's migrants in Libya.

"The government will cover all the costs for their return," he said.

On Monday, the Ethiopian government confirmed that the men who were brutally executed by Daesh militants in Libya – as shown in a recent video – were all Ethiopian.

The video, released by Daesh on Sunday, purportedly shows the execution of dozens of Ethiopian Christians in two different parts of Libya by Daesh's local affiliates.

The video shows over 15 dark-skinned men wearing black suits being shot in the head in the southern Fezzan region.

It shows another ten people, also dark-skinned but wearing orange jumpsuits, being beheaded on the coast of Libya's northern Barqa region.
