Ethiopian President Leaves For Washington

Ethiopian President Mulatu Teshome left Addis Ababa on Tuesday for Washington for a visit to the United States.



Teshome is expected to hold talks with U.S. investors and business people during his visit, state-owned wire service ENA reported.



The Ethiopian President will also attend a US-Africa business and investment summit, due to be held on August 4.



Ethiopia and the U.S. established diplomatic relations in 1895.



The U.S. is one of Ethiopia's major development partners and the two countries have cooperation in several fields, including security and counterterrorism.



Washington, however, is critical of Ethiopia on issues of democratic governance, freedoms and human rights.
