An explosion ripped through the southeastern part of the Afghan capital on Tuesday, with unknown casualties, official sources and witnesses said. "I do confirm a blast took place along a main road in Shah Shahid locality. There is fear of possible causalities," a security source told Xinhua anonymously. The explosion, which occurred at around 11:30 a.m. local time, damaged several houses and vehicles around the site. Government troops cordoned off the area shortly after the blast, keeping people from gathering at the scene for fears that there might be a second blast. Unofficial sources said that the nature of the explosion was a suicide car bomb targeting a two-vehicle convoy passing by the area, where a lawmaker's house was also located. No group has claimed responsibility yet for the attack, but the Taliban insurgent group routinely claims responsibility for such attacks. The blast caused a plume of gray smoke to rise above the scene. On June 30, two civilians were killed and nearly 30 others wounded after a Taliban suicide car bomb hit a foreign military convoy near the Kabul airport. (Cihan/Xinhua)
