16 PEOPLE HAVE DIED
The Fire and Disaster Management Agency (Shobochō) updated the number of hospitalizations across the country due to extreme temperatures from July 21 to 27.
According to the latest data, 16 people died last week, and 10,804 people were hospitalized with heat-related complaints.
55.6% of those hospitalized were individuals aged 65 and over. From July 14 to 20, the number of hospitalizations was 5,309.
The agency warned the public to consume plenty of fluids, use air conditioning properly, and take frequent breaks outdoors.
RECORD TEMPERATURES IN JAPAN
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), as of 3:00 PM local time on July 29, temperatures exceeded 35 degrees Celsius at 318 of the 914 observation points across the country.
Record high temperatures have been recorded in 37 different cities nationwide. In Gujo city, Gifu Prefecture, thermometers showed 39.8 degrees Celsius.
