A fire at a carrot packaging factory in China's east has left at least 18 people dead and 13 others injured, state media agency Xinhua reported Monday.
The fire at a workshop of Longyuan Food Co., LTD broke out at around 19.00 (13.00 Turkish time) Sunday in Shandong province's Shouguang City, renowned as China's vegetable capital.
The fire was extinguished by around 21.30, Xinhua cited local authorities as saying.
The company's managers have been taken into police custody, amid ongoing investigations into the cause of the fire.
The injured people are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
Around a third of the vegetables distributed in China's capital Beijing and largest city Shanghai originate from Shouguang, which produces approximately 8 billion kilograms of green stuffs annually.
