Fishing Season Stars In Turkey

Fishermen began to cast their nets with the removal of annual fishing ban on Tuesday. Sardine was the first fish specie caught by the fishermen in İstanbul.

Head of İstanbul Sea and Animal Products Exporters’ Union Ahmet Tuncay Sagun stated that there will be abundancy in anchovy and tunny this year.

A catch ban is imposed every year between Apr. 15 and Sept. 1 in order to preserve fish eggs and ensure sustainable fishery farming.

An opening ceremony was held by the İstanbul Sea and Animal Products Exporters’ Union. The fishermen who seemed very happy with the opening of the season said they hope this year will be fruitful.
