Football: British Defender Suspended 3 Games For Tweet

30.10.2014 10:33

The English Football Association suspends Queens Park Rangers center back Rio Ferdinand for 3 matches because of a tweet.

The English Football Association banned Queens Park Rangers' English center-back Rio Ferdinand for three matches on Wednesday night.

The Premier League governing body announced on its website that the 35-year-old veteran had been given a three-match suspension and fine of £25,000 (about $24,000) due to his remarks on his Twitter account on Sep. 1.

A football fan had tweeted, "Maybe QPR will sign a good CB [center-back] they need one" and Ferdinand responded with, "Get your mum in, plays the field well son."

Rio Ferdinand will be unavailable in Premier League matches against Chelsea, Manchester City and Newcastle.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand was one of the key players of England's national football team.
