On the 24th anniversary of the martyrdom of Police Chief Ali Gaffar Okkan, who was martyred along with 5 police officers in an armed attack in Diyarbakır on January 24, 2001, he was commemorated. Okkan's words, "This is Ali Gaffar Okkan speaking from 3310 to all units. This is your first and last warning. I will burn those who torment the people of Diyarbakır!" continue to resonate in people's ears.
Ali Gaffar Okkan, the Police Chief who was martyred along with 5 police officers in an armed attack on January 24, 2001, in Diyarbakır, and known as 'Father Gaffar' of Diyarbakır, was commemorated with love and gratitude. The people of Diyarbakır continue to keep "Father Gaffar" alive in their hearts.
A COMMEMORATION CEREMONY WAS HELD
A commemoration ceremony was held in Diyarbakır on the anniversary of the martyrdom of Gaffar Okkan and 5 police officers. The ceremony, organized by the Provincial Police Department, took place on Sezai Karakoç Boulevard in the Yenişehir district, where the attack occurred, and included the reading of the Quran and prayers for the martyrs.
GRADUATED AT 18
Born in 1952 in the Hendek district of Sakarya, Gaffar Okkan graduated from the Police College on September 30, 1970, at the young age of 18.
FIRST ASSIGNMENT IN IZMIR
After graduating from the Police Academy on September 29, 1973, Okkan was appointed as a deputy commissioner in the İzmir Police Department.
FIRST PROMOTION IN ŞANLIURFA
Between 1983 and 1985, after serving in various units, Okkan began his duty at the Şanlıurfa Police Department. In 1985, he was promoted to the position of branch manager.
From 1986 to 1992, Okkan served in the Eskişehir Police Department, and in 1992, he became the Deputy Police Chief.
FIRST ASSIGNMENT AS POLICE CHIEF WAS IN KARS
On December 6, 1993, Okkan was promoted to 1st Class Police Chief and was appointed as the Police Chief of Kars.
APPOINTED AS POLICE CHIEF OF DIYARBAKIR IN 1997
November 18, 1997, was a turning point for Gaffar Okkan. He took office as the Police Chief of Diyarbakır.
MARTYRED IN A TREACHEROUS AMBUSH
On January 24, 2001, around 5:40 PM, Ali Gaffar Okkan was ambushed while driving towards the governor's office in Diyarbakır and was martyred along with 5 police officers.
UNFORGETTABLE ANNOUNCEMENT
Despite 24 years passing since his martyrdom, the announcement of Ali Gaffar Okkan, "To all units from 3310, I am Ali Gaffar Okkan. This is your first and last warning. I will burn those who torment the people of Diyarbakır!" still remains in the memories.
