German Tourist Killed İn Kenya's Mombasa

A female German tourist on Thursday was shot dead in Mombasa, Kenya's second largest city, by unidentified gunmen who attacked her and a Ugandan man said to be her boyfriend, police said.



The couple was attacked while walking on the streets of Old Town, a Mombasa neighborhood popular with foreign tourists.



"I can confirm that a tourist was shot dead at the Mlango wa Papa area of the Old Town. We are still getting information from eyewitnesses to ascertain exactly what may have taken place," Mombasa County Commander Robert Kitur told Anadolu Agency by phone.



A police officer at a police station near Old Town told AA that the German tourist had been killed on the spot by unknown gunmen who did not steal anything from the slain woman.



The Ugandan man who had been accompanying the tourist, meanwhile, is in critical condition at Coast General Hospital, a medical official said.



"Our hospital received the body of a female Caucasian, which had several gunshots. We also received a male patient with a bullet in his neck. We are monitoring him closely, as he is in critical condition," Iqbal Kandwala, the doctor-in-charge, told AA.



Earlier this month, a Russian female tourist was killed in the same neighborhood, also by unknown gunmen.



Mombasa, a world-renowned tourist destination, has recently been hit by a spate of attacks.



On Monday, hooded gunmen killed four people, including an 11-year-old girl. The following day, two people were killed in a similar attack at a local bar.
