It has been reported that Greece plans to deploy Patriot air defense systems at the Souda Naval Base in Crete to protect U.S. personnel against potential threats from Tehran following the conflict that began after Israel's attacks on Iran.
In an extraordinary security meeting held in Athens, the capital of Greece, the country's air defense preparations were reviewed in the context of Israel's attacks on Iran.
INFRASTRUCTURE AT THE SOUDA NAVAL BASE WILL BE STRENGTHENED
According to reports from the Greek press, in a meeting chaired by Defense Minister Nikos Dendias, it was decided to strengthen the infrastructure at the Souda Naval Base on Crete, particularly against ballistic missile threats aimed at US forces.
PATRIOTS WILL BE DEPLOYED TO PROTECT AMERICAN FORCES
In this context, it is planned to deploy Greece's Patriot air defense systems to the region, initially aimed at protecting American forces that could be targeted in a potential attack from Tehran.
MIÇOTAKIS DENIES "THREAT OF ATTACK" CLAIMS
On the other hand, Prime Minister Kyriakos Miçotakis firmly denied the claims of a "threat of attack on the Souda Naval Base" reported by some media outlets. Speaking on a radio program in Thessaloniki, Miçotakis stated, "There is no such threat."
