A response came from Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen to U.S. President Donald Trump, who stated that Greenland is needed for his country's 'national security'. Nielsen, who expressed a desire to maintain dialogue with the U.S. through 'proper channels', noted that there is no risk of 'being taken over in one night', which has resurfaced for Greenland following Washington's military intervention in Venezuela.

Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen held a press conference in the capital Nuuk following U.S. President Donald Trump's statement, "We need Greenland for our national security."

"WE INTEND TO MAINTAIN DIALOGUE WITH THE U.S."

Stating that they are facing a special situation, Nielsen said, "It is understandable for the public to be concerned in light of recent developments, but there is no need for that. Greenland is seeking to maintain dialogue with the U.S. through the 'proper channels.' We intend to continue the trust and cooperation that has lasted for many years with the U.S."

Jens-Frederik Nielsen emphasized that they need to act together as a society and with allies, highlighting their desire to expand cooperation with NATO.

Regarding the renewed attention on Greenland following the U.S. military intervention in Venezuela, Nielsen said, "Greenland's situation is completely different. There is no risk of annexation by the U.S. Greenland wants to use appropriate diplomatic channels to establish contact with the U.S."

Nielsen pointed out that Trump's statements regarding Greenland need to come to an end, conveying that the long-standing friendship is under pressure. Reiterating the importance of re-establishing good cooperation with the U.S., Nielsen noted that there is no risk of "being taken over in one night" for Greenland.

TRUMP CLAIMED GREENLAND IS SURROUNDED BY RUSSIAN AND CHINESE SHIPS

U.S. President Trump, in his latest statement, claimed that Greenland is a "very strategic" location and is currently surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated that everything would come to an end if the U.S. decided to launch a military attack on its NATO ally, expressing that they would never accept threats against Denmark and Greenland.

Greenland, an autonomous region of Denmark, had previously rejected approaches from the U.S. that included the transfer of sovereignty.
