Gunmen Kidnap 18 Turkish Workers In Iraq's Baghdad

Unidentified gunmen on Wednesday kidnapped 18 Turkish workers in Sadr City district, east of Iraqi capital Baghdad, a police source said.
At 5:00 a.m. local time (0200 GMT) the gunmen in black uniforms riding 20 vehicles stormed a building of a Turkish construction company in Shiite bastion of Sadr city. They tied the guards before kidnapping 18 Turkish workers, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The Turkish company was implementing a sport complex, including a football stadium, in Sadr City district, the source said.
It was not immediately clear who were behind the attack, the source said.
The incident came a day after some 50 unknown gunmen abducted 42 detainees who were transported from an army jail near the town of Dujail, north of Baghdad, to the capital. The detainees were supposed to be released due to the lack of evidence on charges of terrorism. (Cihan/Xinhua)
