Palestinian resistance faction Hamas on Sunday held Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responsible for the failure of indirect talks in Egypt to reach a durable ceasefire in the blockaded Gaza Strip.
In a statement, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri denounced remarks made by Netanyahu earlier in the day that the Israeli military operation against Gaza will continue until its goals are achieved.
"Netanyahu's remarks make him fully responsible for the failure of Cairo talks and the consequences," Abu Zuhri said.
Palestinian and Israeli negotiators had held indirect talks in Cairo over the past days with the aim of reaching a long-term ceasefire in Gaza, with no breakthrough announced so far.
Israel and Palestinian factions resumed attacks on Friday with the expiry of a three-day Egypt-brokered ceasefire.
At least 1918 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip since July 7. Around 10000 Palestinians have also been injured.
According to Israeli figures, at least 64 soldiers have been killed in battles with Palestinian fighters in the Gaza Strip and three civilians by rocket fire.
