While Israel is carrying out intense attacks in the Gaza Strip, ceasefire negotiations between Tel Aviv and Hamas have also reached a deadlock.
"WE ACCEPTED THE CEASEFIRE PROPOSAL FROM EGYPT AND QATAR"
The leader of Hamas in Gaza, Khalil al-Hayya, announced two days ago that they received a new proposal for a ceasefire from Egyptian and Qatari mediators. Al-Hayya, who stated that Hamas accepted this proposal, emphasized that he hopes Israel will not sabotage this agreement.
50-DAY PRISONER EXCHANGE AND CEASEFIRE
Al-Hayya conveyed that the proposal includes a 50-day prisoner exchange and ceasefire agreement. Earlier today, claims emerged that Hamas accepted the release of 5 Israeli captives in exchange for a 50-day ceasefire and the release of Palestinian prisoners.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Israeli army had resumed its violent attacks on the morning of March 18, breaking the ceasefire that came into effect on January 19 in the Gaza Strip. Since the resumption of the Israeli army's attacks, more than 896 Palestinians, mostly elderly, women, and children, have lost their lives, and over 1984 people have been injured.
Israel, which broke the ceasefire, announced that it would act against Hamas with "increasing military force" on the grounds that it rejected new ceasefire proposals. Hamas stated that "Israel has not kept its promises and has resumed genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip by failing to fulfill its responsibilities in front of the mediating countries."
