Hamas Says Fired 3 Rockets On Israel

01.08.2014 05:03

Qassam says the rocket attack came in response to what it called Israeli "massacres" against the Palestinian residents of the Gaza Strip.

The Ezzeddin al-Qassam Brigades, the military arm of the Gaza-based Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, said early on Friday that it fired three rockets on the Israeli capital Tel Aviv.

"Our mujahedeen managed to fire two M75 rockets and a J80 rocket on the Israeli capital," Qassam said in a statement.

It added that the rocket attack came in response to what it called Israeli "massacres" against the Palestinian residents of the Gaza Strip.

Qassam's rocket attack on Tel Aviv comes only a few hours before a United Nations-brokered ceasefire comes into effect in Gaza.

The United Nations and the United States said a few hours ago that they got assurances from both the Palestinians and the Israelis that they are ready to abide by a three-day ceasefire that is expected to start at 8: 00am Gaza local time (0500 GMT).

Israel and the Palestinians are also expected to send delegations to the Egyptian capital Cairo within the next few hours to discuss steps to build on the ceasefire on the way of reaching a lasting deal.

Eight more Palestinians were killed by the latest Israeli strike on the southern Gaza Strip City of Khan Younis early on Friday, while ten other people were injured.

The fatalities brought to 1452 Gaza's death toll from Israeli strikes, which started on July 7, and to 8360 the number of injured victims by these strikes.
