09.10.2015 11:36

Pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş has said those who favor violence should not vote for his party in the upcoming elections as the party wants a peaceful solution to the Kurdish issue.“How many more hundreds and thousands of our sons should fall in order for us.

Pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş has said those who favor violence should not vote for his party in the upcoming elections as the party wants a peaceful solution to the Kurdish issue.

“How many more hundreds and thousands of our sons should fall in order for us to call for a democratic solution to this issue? How many losses are needed to reach that point? Those who want violence should not vote for us. We do not want violence. Those who say they want a peaceful solution should vote for us,” Demirtaş said during a live interview aired on Bugün TV on Thursday.

The HDP, which passed the 10 percent election threshold entered Parliament in the June 7 elections, is accused of having links with the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Demirtaş in many occasions said the party opposes any kind of violence.
In a recent interview with the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, Demirtaş said that the HDP does not represent the PKK, adding that such accusations are simply slander from the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government to blame the HDP for the PKK's activities.
However, neither does the HDP see the PKK as its enemy, the party's co-chair added. (Cihan/Today's Zaman)
