SUSPECT WHO KILLED HIS RIVAL IN THE MOSQUE APPEARS BEFORE THE JUDGE

On June 19, 2025, Y.Ş., who allegedly had a feud with Şevki T., killed him by cutting his throat while he was praying in the mosque. Y.Ş. appeared before the Kayseri 2nd Heavy Penal Court. During the hearing, the wife of the deceased, Reyhan T., and their lawyers were present, while the defendant Y.Ş. participated via SEGBİS from the prison where he was held. In his defense, Y.Ş. stated that he became neighbors with the victim after purchasing Şevki T.'s brother's house in 2018, and since then, they had arguments over trivial matters, leading to a feud between them.

"HE WOULD INSULT AND CURSE EVERY TIME HE SAW ME"

Y.Ş., who stated that he was a specialist sergeant, mentioned that he left his position due to incidents between his family and Şevki T. He claimed that his sister Fatma T. gave birth to a child from an illicit relationship while her husband was abroad and that she threw the child in the trash. After learning this, he said their home turned into a house of mourning, and Şevki T. would bring this up during every fight, insulting them by calling them "baby killers" and "child murderers."

"NOW GO COLLECT YOUR HUSBAND'S CORPSE"

Continuing his defense, Y.Ş. stated, "We wanted to move our house because of this. We couldn't move because we had given everything we had to a contractor. A week before the incident, my wife's relatives came to visit due to the birth of our second child and my wife's surgery. The visitors parked in front of Şevki T.'s house. During the ensuing fight, Şevki T. beat my mother," he said.

On the day of the incident, Y.Ş. stated that he was lying in bed with a bandaged foot, and he told his wife to make a payment to the milkman. He said he made the payment, and then his son fell off his bicycle. At that moment, Şevki T., who was in his garden, came out saying, "You baby killers, you dishonorable ones," and at that moment, the call to prayer was announced. He said that upon hearing these words, he lost his temper and took a knife from the concrete, thinking "it must be in the mosque," and followed Şevki T. He stated that in the mosque, he told Şevki T., "Now go ahead and curse again, do it one more time," and he couldn't remember what happened afterward. He mentioned that he called the police and said he would surrender after seeing his children at home, and on his way home, he saw Şevki T.'s wife and told her, "Now go collect your husband's corpse."

Y.Ş. stated that he was not requesting acquittal, saying, "I wish these things had not happened. He cursed me for 7-8 years, and I turned my back and left; I should have left again. I only hear about unjust provocation reductions."

"THERE WAS NO FEUD BETWEEN US"

The wife of the deceased, R.T., stated that there was no feud between them until they broke their door, and that her husband never cursed. She claimed that the defendant Y.Ş. was influenced by his mother. She also mentioned that during the parking incident a week before, Y.Ş.'s brother had cursed, and that four people had assaulted her husband and brother.

During the hearing, individuals present in the mosque at the time of the incident, neighborhood neighbors, and Y.Ş.'s relatives were also heard as witnesses. The court panel postponed the hearing to a later date to address the deficiencies.
