The severely injured woman named Lakshmi stated in her testimony before dying that her husband Kishandas had constantly belittled her for being dark since the day they got married and mocked her body.
HE WAS SENTENCED TO DEATH
The details of the incident are horrifying. The brutal husband began applying the liquid from a plastic bottle, which he referred to as "skin-lightening medicine," onto his wife's body. He then set the young woman on fire with an incense stick.
After the incident, the husband was sentenced to death. Prosecutor Dinesh Paliwal stated in an interview with the BBC, "This decision will go down in history. We want it to serve as a lesson to society. She was someone's daughter, someone's sister. If we do not protect our daughters, who will?"
