Ertan Kan, who was attacked by a bear he encountered in a hazelnut orchard in the Mudurnu district of Bolu, lost one of his fingers. Kan stated that the bear also bit his mobile phone and expressed that he was thinking about his children at the moment of the incident.
In the Mudurnu district of Bolu, a person attacked by a bear in a hazelnut orchard lost a finger and was injured in various parts of his body. Describing the terrifying moments he experienced, Ertan Kan (47) said, "At that moment, I thought, 'What will happen to my children?', 'How will they make a living?' I had no chance to be afraid or to run away."
Ertan Kan, who lives in the Yeğenderesi village of the Taşkesti town in the Mudurnu district of Bolu, went to the field to water his hazelnut orchard a few days ago.
INJURED IN BEAR ATTACK
Kan suddenly encountered a bear with its cub in the orchard. Surprised by the bear's sudden charge, Kan tried to protect himself with a piece of irrigation pipe in his hand. To protect himself from the bear's claw strike, Kan shielded his face with his arm and was bitten on the wrist.
After struggling with the bear for a while, during which he lost a finger, Kan was also injured on his hip, legs, and shoulders from the bear's claw strikes. After managing to escape, Kan tried to get to the road while injured.
HIS PHONE WAS ALSO BROKEN
Realizing that his phone was also broken by the bear's claw strikes, Kan struggled to call the 112 Emergency Call Center for help. Kan was taken home with the help of his relatives and was transported to Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University Training and Research Hospital by the medical teams that arrived at the scene.
"IT BIT OFF MY FINGER AND ALSO BIT MY CELL PHONE"
After his treatment, Ertan Kan recounted his experiences, saying, "As I was approaching the hazelnut orchard, I saw the bears 5-6 meters ahead. Before I could escape, it pulled me between its two legs. I had no chance to run away when I saw it. It immediately brought me down between its two legs. It bit me on my hip and hand. When I fell, I looked for something on the ground. I used a piece of plastic hose, and it let go of my hand. It took a few steps, and when the cub didn't follow, it turned back and bit off my middle finger and bit my legs. It also bit my cell phone," he said.
Ertan Kan, who stated that bears frequently roam in the area, said, "Currently, no one goes to the orchard. A few people go together, but no one goes alone during the daytime." He also added that he has lost sensation in two of his fingers after the attack.

Kan expressed that he thought of his children during the bear attack, saying, "At that moment, I thought, 'What will happen to my children?', I have 4 children, 'How will they make a living?' I had no chance to be afraid or to run away, and I didn't have any cutting or piercing tool in my hand. I held my face with my hand to prevent it from biting me. We struggled a bit," he said.
