Medical personnel protested against the non-fulfillment of the law regulating health workers’ low wages in front of the Iranian parliament Oct. 29, the Iranian parliament website said.

The rally participants want the government to fulfill the law adopted by parliament in 2007 regulating the salary of health workers. Their main complaint is that they have low salaries despite long working hours.

Currently, there is a shortage of health workers in the hospitals of the country. Health care workers are leaving the country seeking the higher salaries available abroad, Iran’s media reported.

Two health workers are needed for one hospital bed in accordance with international standards. But this index is twofold less in Iran.
The minimum salary of health workers in Iran is $380 a month. But salary ranges from $2,500 to $4,000 a month on average in the US, Canada and Australia, where Iranian health workers go to find jobs. (Cihan/Trend az)
