Houthis Disperse Rally İn Yemen's Hudayda; 1 Killed

One protester was killed Monday and ten others injured when Houthi militants dispersed a rally in Yemen's western Al-Hudayda province, eyewitnesses have said.



"Houthi militants opened fire on a protest in the province, killing a protester and injuring ten others," one eyewitness told The Anadolu Agency.



According to witnesses, some of the protesters were seriously injured in the melee.



Witnesses say that protesters had gathered to demand the expulsion of militias from the province.



Fractious Yemen has remained in turmoil since last September, when Shiite militants overran capital Sanaa, from which they have sought to extend their influence to other parts of the country as well.



Since last Wednesday, Saudi Arabia and its Gulf allies have been pounding Houthi positions in crisis-hit Yemen.



Riyadh says the strikes are in response to appeals by embattled President ABD Rabbu Manshour Hadi to "save the [Yemeni] people from the Houthi militias."



Some Gulf countries accuse Shiite Iran of supporting Yemen's Houthi insurgency.
