Around 100 Syrian refugees, including women and children, were caught by the security forces in a truck’s haulage, on international highway while heading towards Greece border on Sunday.
Fleeing the war in Syria, refugees continue to their journey towards Europe. Attempting to reach to Greece and Bulgaria, the immigrants agreed with the driver of truck S. Ç. Getting on to the closed haulage of the truck, refugees set off the road. Getting out of Edirne tollhouses on TEM highway, the truck was stopped by area traffic control units while heading towards Kapıkule border gate. Examining the documents of the driver, the official suspected of the situation and asked him to open the haulage. Then the police encountered around 100 people inside the truck. Over the call of units, many of officials from Edirne Provincial Gendarmerie Command were arrived at the scene. After the inspection, all of the people inside the truck were determined to be Syrians.
While the refugees were taken to provincial gendarmerie command, the driver S. Ç. was taken into custody.
