A 79-year-old educator has been arrested in France, accused of sexually abusing 89 children in about 10 countries over a span of 55 years. According to reports in the national press, Jacques Leveugle, who lives in the Isere department of France, is accused of sexually abusing 89 children aged between 13 and 17 in nearly 10 countries where he worked as an educator from 1967 to 2022.
PROSECUTION CALLS FOR WITNESSES AFFECTED BY THE CRIMES
While announcing the arrest of the 79-year-old suspect, the Grenoble Prosecutor's Office called on individuals who have information about the educator or who have been affected by his crimes to come forward as witnesses. The prosecution stated that the investigation into the suspect began in 2023 after a USB drive containing sensitive content belonging to the suspect was delivered to law enforcement by a relative.
COMMITTED ACTS IN NEARLY 10 COUNTRIES
The prosecution reported that the USB drive contained records of the suspect sexually abusing 89 children of different ages in nearly 10 countries, noting that the lack of real names used for the children in these records made identification difficult, and only 40 of the children recorded have been identified so far. While the majority of the abused children are located in France, there are also victims from Morocco, Niger, Germany, Algeria, India, and Colombia among the children.
