Police units intervened in a group on Sunday, who wanted to hold an illegal rally due to the anniversary of terrorist ringleader Abdullah Öcalan’s capture on February 15, in the eastern province of Batman. Twelve people were arrested during the incidents.
A group of protestors, including People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Batman Deputies Ayşe Acar Başaran, Mehmet Ali Aslan and some of party directors gathered at Dörtyol junction and released a press statement. Following the statement, the crowd wanted to walk towards Atatürk Park. The police warned group to end the rally for it is illegal.
Despite the repeating warnings of the police, the group argued with security units. After increasing of the tension, some protestors threw stones and the police responded with pressurized water and tear gas. According to the initial report, 12 people were arrested.
Also, deputy Aslan reacted the police and Başaran claimed that police forces used real bullets during the intervention.
