Indian footballer Peter Biaksangzuala died Sunday after a somersault attempt led to serious injuries.
The 23-year old Bethlehem Vengthlang player scored a goal against Chanmari West in 62nd minute Tuesday. To celebrate, he tried to make a somersault, but landed on his neck instead, according to a report in British daily The Independent on Monday.
Biaksangzuala was immediately sent to Aizawl Civil Hospital, however the player died after spending five days in intensive care unit. CT scans confirmed that Indian player had damaged his spinal cord.
Meanwhile, Bethlehem Vengthlang announced that Biaksangzuala's jersey number, 21 has been retired by the club.
