United Nations Turkey and Turkish Japanese Foundation celebrated "World Day of Peace " together with a peace bell ceremony in Turkish capital of Ankara on Friday.
Along with UN representatives and Turkish Japanese Foundation members, students, members of the diplomatic corps and NGO representatives also attended the ceremony.
UN Resident Coordinator a.i. Zahidul Huque, Minister Counselor of Japanese Embassy Keisuke Yamanaka and President of the Turkish Japanese Foundation Prof. Dr. C. Tayyar Sadıklar made speeches to mark the international day.
Making an opening speech President of the Turkish Japanese Foundation Prof. Dr. C. Tayyar Sadıklar called everyone to unify against terrorism.
"After recent crises Iraq and Syria I guess world community woke up and now many calls world countries call to unite against terrorism. Let's here together make our call for unifying against terrorism and let's pray for world peace" Sadıklar added.
In his turn UN Resident Coordinator Huque stated that without peace and security, humanity’s sustainable progress and the realization of fundamental rights and freedoms cannot be achieved. What is happening in our region today is a vivid example of this fact.
Later on, participants rang the bell to invite world leaders to establish sustainable peace for all.
The message of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to the event also was read during the ceremony.
