Iran's Monthly Car Output Decreases By 42%

Iran’s car output during the eighth calendar month of Aban (Oct. 22-Nov. 22) stood at 55,493, 43.2 percent less compared to the same month of preceding year.

Iranian carmakers produced 50,808 sedans in the one-month period, indicating a 37.6 percent fall year on year, according to a report from Iran’s industry, mines and trade ministry.

Iranian companies manufactured 604,035 cars in the first eight months of the current Iranian fiscal year, which began on March 21.

The figure indicates a decrease by 16.2 percent compared to the same period of the past year.

During the 8-month period, 554,094 sedan cars were produced, a 9.4 percent fall year on year.

Also, 42,194 pick-ups were manufactured in the period, showing 56.9 percent decrease compared to the same months preceding year.

More than 1.13 million cars were produced in Iran in the past Iranian fiscal year, which ended on March 20.

Sedan cars output stood at 958,335 in the mentioned period, a 53 percent rise year on year.

Iran also produced 150,929 pickup trucks, 20,239 trucks, 482 buses, and 179 minibuses in the 12-month period.

Iran produced 989,110 cars in 2012, which made the country Asia’s eighth largest car manufacturer. Iran also stood at the world’s 18th place in the mentioned year.

The Islamic Republic’s car output faced a 40 percent decrease in 2012 due to the sanctions. The country was Asia's fifth largest car manufacturer in 2011, with a total output of 1,648,505. (Cihan/Trend az)
