Iraqi Kurdish Pm Visits Refugee Camp Built By Turkey

21.09.2014 22:47

Nechirvan Barzani praises Turkey's efforts to help the internally displaced in Iraq.

The Iraqi Kurdish regional government's prime minister Nechirvan Barzani on Sunday visited a refugee camp set up by Turkey's disaster management agency in the northern Iraqi province of Dohuk.

Barzani and accompanying Iraqi Kurdish ministers met with Mehmet Akif Inam, Turkey's Consul General in Erbil, during the visit.

"Turkey extended its helping hand not only for the current situation but after many disasters we experienced in the past," Barzani said.

He said the government in Erbil gave all kinds of support to Turkey's efforts to build camps.

The camps set up by Turkey's Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency accomodate Iraq's displaced people fleeing a rapid advance by the terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL.

The rise of ISIL since early June triggered a massive wave of internal displacement of more than a million Iraqis.
