Israeli forces on Monday detained ten Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem, a Palestinian NGO has said.
"Israeli police backed by army forces detained ten Palestinians throughout occupied East Jerusalem," Mohamed Mahmoud, a lawyer with the Prisoners Support and Human Rights Association ("Addameer"), told The Anadolu Agency.
"Israeli forces detained six Palestinians from the Old City of Jerusalem after raiding their homes," he said.
"Two others were detained in the villages of Silwan and Al-Issawyia, while another two were apprehended in the Shuafat and Atur neighborhoods," he added.
Israel occupied East Jerusalem during the 1967 Middle East War. It annexed the city in 1980, claiming it as the unified capital of the self-proclaimed Jewish state – a move never recognized by the international community.
Over 7,000 Palestinians are currently languishing in Israeli prisons, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Prisoners' Affairs.
