Israel Razes 8 Palestinian Structures İn W. Bank

Israeli bulldozers on Monday demolished three Palestinian homes and five makeshift structures in the occupied West Bank, a local resident has said.

Sabah Abu Rachid, a resident of Al-Jiftlik village, told Anadolu Agency that Israeli army forces had arrived in the area in the company of bulldozers, which later demolished three residences and four makeshift structures used for breeding livestock.

He said the Israeli army had claimed that the structures had been built without construction licenses.

"Another army force demolished a fourth makeshift structure in Fasayil village, located close to Al-Jiftlik," said Abu Rachid.

He noted that the homes had been built in 2008, adding that their owners were notified earlier this year about the plan to demolish them.

Anadolu Agency could not obtain immediate comment from Israeli authorities on the reported home demolitions.

Israel usually prevents Palestinians in Area C – established in line with the Oslo Accords - from building homes in the area under the pretext that the land is Israeli territory.

The accords, signed between the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli government in 1993 and 1995, divide the West Bank into areas A, B and C.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank during the 1967 Middle East War. It later annexed the city of Jerusalem in 1980, claiming it as the capital of the self-proclaimed Jewish state  – a move never recognized by the international community.
