Israel 'Targets' Man Responsible For Hamas Transactions

24.08.2014 18:03

Israeli army said Sunday it targeted Mohamed al Ghoul, the man responsible for Hamas' financial transactions in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli army said Sunday it targeted Mohamed al-Ghoul, the man responsible for Hamas' financial transactions in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement, the army said that al-Ghoul was targeted by a direct hit in the northern Gaza Strip.

Israel alleges that al-Ghoul is responsible for Hamas' salary transfers.

There was no comment from Hamas on the attack.

Israel resumed airstrikes in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday following the collapse of indirect, Egypt-hosted talks aimed at hammering out a durable ceasefire deal.

While Israel accused Hamas of breaking a temporary 5-day ceasefire with a rocket barrage, the Palestinian faction accused the self-proclaimed Jewish state of attempting to derail the truce talks in Cairo.

Since hostilities began on July 7, at least 2110 Palestinians have been killed – the vast majority of them civilians – and more than 10,600 injured by Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip.

Over the same period, at least 68 Israelis – 64 soldiers and four civilians – have been killed, according to Israeli figures.
