Israeli Police, Palestinians Clash İn W. Bank

28.07.2014 23:18

Policemen used teargas to disperse the demonstrators, who responded with stones, the eyewitness said.

Violent confrontations broke out in East Jerusalem on Monday between Israeli troops and Palestinian youths who went out to protest Israel's ongoing war against the Gaza Strip.

Scores of masked people pelted policemen with stones and empty glass bottle, Israel's police said on its webpage.

It added that Israeli policemen had to disperse the demonstrators, reporting no casualties among them.

An eyewitness said, however, that Israeli policemen had attacked scores of Palestinian youths who went out of East Jerusalem's Isawiya village to express solidarity with the people of Gaza who have been suffering a ceaseless Israeli war for three weeks now.

"Policemen used teargas to disperse the demonstrators, who responded with stones," the eyewitness told Anadolu Agency.

The West Bank has seen several pro-Gaza protests following the Eid prayers on Monday as the embattled territory has been pounded by Israeli attacks since July 7, leaving at least 1068 Palestinians dead and more than 6258 injured.

Israel claims that its military offensive aims at undermining the ability of Gaza's resistance movements to launch rocket attacks.

At least 51 Israelis, including 48 soldiers and three civilians, have also been killed since the hostilities began.
