A Palestinian man has been seriously injured when a piece of Israeli unexploded ordnance went off in the West Bank's Jordan Valley area, a local Palestinian official said on Sunday.
Ahmed Safawta, 40, sustained critical injuries from the explosion in the northern Jordan Valley's Bardala district, according to Aref Draghma, who heads a northern local council in the Jordan Valley.
Draghma added that the Israeli army has been carried out a military exercise in the Jordan Valley a few days ago.
He went on to say that Safawta was transferred to hospital via an Israeli helicopter.
The Israeli government has yet to comment on the incident.
The Israeli army routinely stages war games in the Jordan Valley, home to some 10,000 Palestinians.
Israel sees the strategic valley as an economic and security buffer zone for Jewish settlements and wants to keep the region under its control in any future peace deal with the Palestinians.
Palestinians, for their part, want the Jordan Valley as part of a future state of Palestine.
