Italy's Sacred Family Foundation is waiting for the former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi to start his community service for the disabled in lieu of his one-year sentence for tax fraud.
The foundation's General Director Paolo Pigni told an Anadolu Agency correspondent on Saturday that Berlusconi's future arrival gave popularity a boost to the foundation.
The Sacred Family Foundation has been serving as a nursing home for the needy since late 19th century and now serves to around 850 people. Alongside the nursing home, there are a hospital with 120 beds and a church in the facility.
"We work only with professionals in our institution. Hundreds of people have been sent here by courts so far. These people assist the professionals, they make company to our guests and perform some animations or other daily performances. Just like them, Berlusconi will help our guests along with professionals," Pigni said.
Serving on and off as prime minister between 1994 and 2011, Berlusconi had his four-year prison sentence commuted to one year and a court ruled on Tuesday that he would serve his sentence through part-time community service.
