Iuc To Discuss Iraqi Uni Students İn Daesh-Held Regions

30.03.2015 18:34

International Universities Council to explore possibility of Iraqi university students in Daesh held regions continuing their education in Turkey.

The International Universities Council is set to meet in Ankara to discuss whether to grant Iraqi university students in Daesh-held regions an opportunity to continue their education in Turkey.

The council - which is formed from a membership of 100 universities from 25 countries including Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Iraq and Malaysia - and rectors from Iraqi universities will attend the meeting in the Turkish capital on Tuesday.

IUC President Orhan Hikmet Azizoglu said:  "We will discuss what can be done to ensure that the Iraqi students, who have had to discontinue their education due to the terror threat posed by Daesh, can study at Turkish universities."

"We will share the consultation results with the Turkish Council of Higher Education."

The council's previous regional consultation meeting held in Dohuk, northern Iraq, last year discussed the problems faced by university students in areas occupied by the extremist group.

IUC was established in 2010 with the participation of leading universities and the cooperation of Azizoglu and seven founder chancellors in an attempt to build a strong academic research and education system, according to the IUC website.
