ATTENTION-GRABBING BANNER
Greenpeace Italia and the British group "Everyone Hates Elon" unveiled a 400 square meter banner in Venice's famous St. Mark's Square, featuring a photo of Bezos and the English text "If you can rent Venice for your wedding, you can pay more taxes." The banner was removed by the police.
"WE ARE DRAWING ATTENTION TO SOCIAL INJUSTICE"
Greenpeace activists argued that Bezos represents an economic and social model that leads humanity to collapse, claiming that their protests highlight both social injustice and the damage done to the climate and environment.
Meanwhile, local media reports indicated that there are plans to increase security measures in the city due to both anti-wedding demonstrations and the ongoing conflict in the Iran-Israel-US triangle.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Last week in Venice, a protest movement called "No Place for Bezos" also protested the famous wedding by hanging banners on the Rialto Bridge over the city's famous Grand Canal.
Banners reading "Bezos's wedding in Venice? No" and "No place for Bezos and oligarchs" were also hung in various locations around the city, opposing what is referred to as the wedding of the year.
Although there are those opposing the wedding in the city, Venice's Mayor Luigi Brugnaro expressed his satisfaction with Bezos choosing their city as the wedding venue and stated that he supports this idea.
