At least 13 Ukrainians, including four soldiers, have been killed amid ongoing clashes between army troops and pro-Russian separatist within 24 hours in the eastern Ukraine, according to Ukrainian security officials.
Andriy Lysenko, a spokesman for the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council information center, said at least four Ukrainian army soldiers were killed and 20 injured in the Lugansk Oblast of southeastern Ukraine.
Separately, nine civilians were killed and 41 people injured during clashes between the sides in the eastern Ukrainian city of Lugansk, said Lugansk city hall officials.
According to an official statement, 22 houses were heavily damaged by Ukrainian mortar shells.
At least 500 people have been killed since pro-Russian separatists in the eastern part of Ukraine declared their intention to break away from Kiev in March.
