Kosovo Adopts Law To Ban People From Fighting Abroad

The Assembly of Kosovo on Friday adopted a law to ban the participation of Kosovites in overseas armed conflicts, in an attempt to stop young people from being recruited in the Middle East, especially in Syria.
Almost all political parties voted for the bill, except the Self-Determination Movement, which demanded the inclusion of terrorist organizations in the bill. Out of the 86 deputies present at the plenary session, 74 voted in favor and 12 against.
The law clearly forbids participation of Kosovites in armed conflicts abroad and violation of the law leads to imprisonment of 6 months to 15 years.
The Kosovar society is concerned about the recruitment of young Kosovites in the war in Syria. It is estimated that at least 100 Kosovites are fighting in the Middle East country, where about 10 Kosovites have been reportedly killed. (Cihan/Xinhua)
