The Lebanese army on Thursday said it had arrested a Palestinian member of the militant Abdullah Azzam Brigades for allegedly carrying out terrorist acts and targeting a U.N. peacekeepers' patrol in southern Lebanon.
The brigades have claimed responsibility for two suicide attacks on the Iranian embassy in Beirut in February of this year and last November.
In a statement, the Lebanese army said it had arrested the Palestinian brigades member, asserting that several arrest warrants had been issued for the suspect due to his alleged involvement in the 2007 killing of several Spanish peacekeepers.
The army said that the same man had also carried out bombings, transferred arms, committed murder and targeted public institutions in Lebanon.
It added that the suspect was currently being interrogated by the relevant judicial authorities.
Last December, the Lebanese army arrested two leaders of the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, along with several others accused of cooperating with terrorist organizations.
