Heavy rainfall last week has led to a delay in harvesting legumes and rice, causing additional hikes in the price of legumes, which had already hit record-high levels due to the prolonged drought this summer, according to news outlets.

Following the late harvest, the price of beans rose by TL 0.35 to TL 4.50 per kilogram, while various types of lentils have seen increases of between TL 0.40 and TL 0.60.

The price of rice has increased by TL 0.20. Three types of rice, Gönen, Baldo and Osmancık, have reached TL 4.50, TL 4.20 and TL 3.20 per kilogram, respectively, as a result of the delay in the harvest.

Meanwhile, Turkish Union of Agricultural Chambers (TZOB) President Şemsi Bayraktar has complained about the difference between the final sale prices of food products and producers' prices. Issuing a written statement on Wednesday, Bayraktar accused intermediaries of making an unfair profit on food products and added that government importation of food in an attempt to decrease prices would directly hurt producers.

Comparing the final and producers' prices for several goods, Bayraktar stated that the price of parsley increased by a record 464.29 percent in September from field to market. As Bayraktar cited, a bunch of parsley is priced at TL 0.14 in the field, while it is sold at TL 0.79 at the market. A kilogram of green peppers is sold in markets at 313.94 percent higher than in the field, and the gap between the field and market prices for rice is about 194.97 percent.
