Liberians Go To Polls For Special Senatorial Elections

Liberia stages a special senatorial election amidst the Ebola crisis.

The ruling by the Supreme Court of Liberia on 13 December to dismiss petitions which sought postponement of the Special Senatorial Elections, and the subsequent decision on 14 December of the National Elections Commission to set a new date for elections on 20 December, have provided the citizens of Liberia clarity on the timing of these elections. The conduct of peaceful elections at this difficult time in the nation's life will remind the world about democratic progress in Liberia.

Rival Senatorial candidates, Robert Sirleaf, and ex-footballer turned politician, George Weah, cast their votes at polling centers in the city. The party rivals are vying for coveted Senate seats in Montserrado County, Liberia.
