Lithuania Admitted To Eurozone

The European Union approved Lithuania adopting the Euro as its currency from 1 January 2015, according to a press release published on the EU website on Wednesday.



Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius said the decision would strengthen the country's economy in his speech after the meeting where Lithuania was given the green light to adopt the Euro.



"46 percent of Lithuanians support this decision. We expect this support to increase following today's decision," he said.



The country, which will be the last Baltic country to be admitted to the Eurozone, had been given preliminary approval in June.
