Macedonia has decided to build two-meter-high [6.5 feet] fences on its frontier with Greece after migrants clashed with border police on Saturday night.
The clash came after the Macedonian government decided to restrict entry to migrants from war-torn countries only.
Macedonia's interior ministry has accused some migrants in the frontier town of Gevgelija of attacking border police with sticks and stones, injuring 18 officers.
Police responded with stun grenades and plastic bullets, the government said.
There are about 3,000 so-called 'economic migrants' still waiting on the Greek border, being monitored by a large security-force presence.
Macedonia, Serbia and Croatia have already decided to allow migrants from warzones only.
President Gjorge Ivanov says that building a fence does not mean closing the border, but is only a measure of limiting the number of migrants entering European countries.
Hungary was the first EU country to build a border fence to control refugees, on Aug. 6, before sealing its frontier with Serbia.
Macedonia is the third country in Europe, after Hungary and Slovenia, to build a fence on its border. - Sırbistan
