Mahir Polat, the Deputy Secretary General of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, who was arrested as part of a 'terror' investigation targeting the municipality, has been transferred from Marmara Prison in Silivri to a hospital. Polat, who recently underwent angioplasty and has six stents in his body, was hospitalized two days ago due to complaints of hypertension.

The development was announced by Polat's lawyer, Erkam Erdem. In a statement on his social media account, Erdem said, "When our lawyer friend wanted to meet, we learned that he was not in the prison and had been transferred to the hospital by ambulance. We hope it is the transfer we expected. It is not due to an emergency situation," he stated.

HE HAD FAINTED TWO DAYS AGO

Polat had fainted two days ago due to hypertension. After his initial treatment at the infirmary of the prison where he was held, he was taken to Silivri State Hospital, and after his treatment, he was transferred back to prison. Polat's request to be transferred to a fully equipped hospital was accepted yesterday.

HE HAD UNDERGONE ANGIOGRAPHY 3 TIMES IN 4 YEARS

Polat, who had undergone angiography three times in the last four years and had six stents placed, had described his health problems in his statement at the police. Polat had stated: "I underwent angiography two weeks ago, and I have a total of six stents. In addition, there is blockage in two of my arteries. A new angiography was planned within two weeks regarding this. My treatment is ongoing, and I have medications that I am using. Additionally, due to having had thyroid cancer, regular PET scans are conducted to monitor and treat whether cancer has appeared in other parts of my body. Besides these, I live a life connected to a device due to my sleep apnea. I also have hypertension and diabetes."

'TERROR' INVESTIGATION AGAINST IMM

An investigation was initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against 7 suspects, including IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu, Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat, and Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, for the crime of "aiding the PKK/KCK terrorist organization." The court ruled for the arrest of Polat, Şahan, and Reform Institute Director Mehmet Ali Çalışkan.
