Ibrahim Yücel, a Turkish local from western city of Kütahya, in order to prevent himself from smoking, locked his head in an iron cage specially manufactured for his head.
Yücel, smoking for 26 years said he made the cage as a last resort after he failed dozens of times to give up harmful addiction.
"I wasn't happy with my tobacco addiction during my life. I tried to give it up for dozens of times in special days such as on our wedding anniversaries, my children's birthdays, my own birthday and so on. But unfortunately I wasn't successful in self denial. Finally, I was seriously affected by my father's death causing from lung cancer and decided to take a concrete step about smoking. As my greatest problem was inability of self denial. I made this iron cage which will help me avoid from smoking despite my will," he said.
Yücel's family supports him in his decision. His wife Kevser Yücel says that when her husband told her about caging himself she refused at first and found it odd and shameful. But she changed her mind later because she thought that his health comes first and everything is ok to get rid smoking.
"It is shameful. My father walks around wearing a strange iron cage but I support him. My grandfather died a short time ago from lung cancer as he also was a hard smoker. I don't want the same end for my father as well," echoed Yücel's 14 years old daughter Ayşenur to Cihan reporter.
