A man who was caught on surveillance camera shooting to death a guard dog at a construction site in Turkey's western province of Edirne had been fined TL 1,002 by authorities.
Yüksel Kuanç, a 41-year-old man, was seen in the now-public footage shooting a guard dog five times at a construction area on Kıyık Street, causing the dog die. The Edirne Police Department identified Yuanç from surveillance camera footage upon a report by the construction workers. Yuanç was later detained. In his interrogation, Yuanç claimed that he killed the dog because it previously bit him and also attacked his 11-year-old son. Yuanç said that he had repeatedly warned the people in charge of the construction site that the dog to be put on a leash but they did not.
Kuanç was later released and penalized as an administrative procedure under the Law on Animal Protection. The Edirne Chief Public Prosecutor's Office also launched a criminal investigation into the suspect.
