A man killed three people and wounded six others when he attacked students and a teacher at a primary school in central China on Monday morning, local authorities said.
The man entered Dongfang Primary School in Yunxi County in Hubei Province and attempted to stab eight students and the teacher with a knife, reported Xinhua.
Xinhua - the country's national news agency - said that three people had died after the attack, while the man killed himself.
The injured are being treated in hospital and police have begun investigating the case.
No information has yet been released on the man's motive or the identities of the dead.
The number of knife attacks in Chinese elementary schools and public places has increased in recent years, the perpetrators often said to be mentally ill.
