Several people are feared dead and hundreds injured after multiple bomb explosions and shootings rocked a prominent mosque in Nigeria's northwestern Kano State.
"We had massive bomb explosions and shooting inside and around the mosque, with devastating consequences," Abdullateef Abubakar Jos, a broadcast journalist in Kano, told The Anadolu Agency by phone.
"Several people are feared dead, but details are sketchy for now," he said.
"The first explosion went off just after prayers started at the mosque, then multiple explosions followed," he added. "Prayers were immediately disrupted."
The explosions occurred at a mosque, located near Kano's Sabo Ntiti area, which is frequented by influential traditional Kano ruler Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
Police spokesman Magaji Majiya confirmed the blasts to AA, but said details "remain sketchy."
Abidoye Lawan, a local driver, confirmed the development to AA, saying: "All of us are running helter-skelter now because there is confusion everywhere in Kano."
He added: "Everyone's trying to escape from the shootings."
